Typically freshwater pearls are cultured with only a small 2mm square of tissue from a donor mollusk and are cultured 12-14 pearls per each host mollusk. The Edison Pearl is the newest addition to the family of Freshwater pearls. Borrowing techniques from saltwater culturing, only 1 pearl is cultured in each mollusk, and the harvest will yield much larger sized pearls with bright luster and colors such as white, pink, peach, plum, and the more exotic aubergine- purple tones. The intensity of this luster and color provides the most unique pearls in the freshwater pearl family in terms of color, undertone and size. Currently only 3 farms are producing Edison Pearls.
